When to Use a Fire Extinguisher

2/16/2017 (Permalink)

Fire extinguishers should be available in every building you are in, including your Girard home. Misconceptions about fire extinguishers are that they should and can be used on all types of fires in any situation. However, there are many types of fire extinguishers such as water, chemical, foam, etc. Each extinguisher is designed to put out different typed of fires. You should only try to put out a fire if it is contained, if you are safe from toxic smoke, you have a means of escaping that isn’t blocked by the fire. You should make sure the building if evacuated before extinguishing so the toxic air from smoke and the extinguisher does not harm anyone inside. If the fire is too much to handle, evacuate the building and call the fire department so they can handle it. If you experience fire damage, contact the professionals at your local SERVPRO at (330)392-6355 and follow us on Facebook for more information.
