Summer days are ahead for Trumbull County. And goodness knows---we have waited long enough for them. With summer comes vacations. And while you are away, the last thing you need to worry about is water damage. SERVPRO of Southern Trumbull County is here to give our residents some tips to keep your Howland home dry this summer.

  • Check for any needed repairs

Not tending to small leaks in the home can not only cause major water damage…but mold can begin to spread as well. Keeping a close eye on the faucets, sump pumps, drains, and appliances can make all the difference in not having a water issue at the home. If you notice a small leak---it needs repaired immediately. If you are not sure where the water is coming from; it may be best to consult a plumber to identify the source.

  • Test the sump pump

This is one of the most important tips we give! The sump pump is vital to pumping out any excess water that enters the home. If it is not working---you could be in big trouble. Doing a simple test is all you need to determine if the sump is properly working. If you notice something array---call a service technician as soon as possible. If you have a lifetime warranty on it---most of the work should be covered, so there is no money out of pocket for the repairs.

  • Actually read you water bill

Many people do not look at the details of their water bill. Make sure to open it up and read the meter reading. Try to compare it to the last bill for a good indication on the median numbers used each month. If something does not seem right…it probably is not. Give them a call.

  • Shut off the water when you leave for vacation

Do you know where the main shut off valve is? You should! Firstly, this is where you would want to turn off the water in the case of a disaster. Secondly, it saves you money to turn the water completely off when you are gone. Thirdly, it eliminates a lot of hazards while you are away.
